Tears Are Not Enough, by Andrew Joppa

“Sons of Islam everywhere, the jihad is a duty – to establish the rule of Allah on earth and to liberate your countries and yourselves from America’s domination and its Zionist allies, it is your battle – either victory or martyrdom.”

Ahmed Yassin

The Western response to Islamic Jihadic terrorism has not changed. You will scarcely, if at all, hear it mentioned to define the origin of the Hamas attacks on October 7th. To that extent, we will fail in our response to these horrors. We have become very predictable in offering scripted platitudes and we have now, of course, institutionalized the very act of “mourning.” Oh, how we cry when innocents are slaughtered. We light candles and bring flowers to place upon the blood of the victims, trying to bring closure by cloaking their deaths in a blanket of obligatory grief.

It is as if we believe somehow these brutal deaths will have less of an impact on us if we show the appropriate level of public anguish and tears. Soon, Inter-faith services will typically include the condescending remarks of an Imam; an Imam who on the previous Friday night had been offering provocations to his followers for violent Jihad.

Western unity exists only within this formula for surrender by mourning. It is, in fact, nothing more than a variation of appeasement for the enemy and perhaps worse, evidence for them of the pain they had hoped to inflict upon us. They know that all too often, grief and platitudes are all the West brings to the table of war. We are not really worried about Russia. They know we are terrified by Islamic Jihad terrorism.

We say boldly that terrorism will not disrupt our lives, then we devote extensive resources to preventing the “unpreventable,” at least within our current model. We seem to want to try to fool ourselves that we have things under control by putting geriatric citizens through scanners at airports, making people take off their shoes, limiting liquids that can be carried on, or putting up “impenetrable” walls to keep the barbarians at bay.

We search all bags at public events and take two-inch pen knives from key chains. All these actions amount to no more than a strange ritual of folly we have designed to assure ourselves that we are in control of the situation. Perhaps that is why Israel…The Mossad, Shin Bet, and the IDF ignored all the warning signs of the Hamas attack. They had covered all their inconsequential bases while leaving their hearts exposed.

The major disruption in the West, of course, is the way Islamic terror has nearly paralyzed our logical faculties and caused us to suspend our appropriate survival mechanisms. You can hear it in the way it is discussed. All with the implication of terrorism and death erupting in unpredictable environments. To that extent, Islamic terrorism has largely succeeded.

Islam’s Western jihad has fragmented our unity. It has terrified, immobilized, and made us cower, to the point that we fear even to name the enemy. For those who wonder how these barbarians could slaughter babies the answer is quite simple. It deepens our horror and, with that, our willingness to appease these human transgressors. We know the Hamas thugs could slaughter and mutilate the hostages on whim.

We declare with great bravado that we will bring to justice those responsible, meaning the actual perpetrators. This is akin to saying that those responsible for Auschwitz were only those who had operated the gas chambers. While those death-camp operatives were complicit, we know that the Naz* horrors had their origin in Berlin. We knew that until their philosophy was defeated or at least neutralized, that the horrors would continue. There were no moderate Naz*s and very few moderates among their “fellow travelers.”

The Naz* analogy can be carried further. We know that not all Germans were Naz*s. We know that not all Germans supported The Third Reich. Yet, we also know that most Germans, by their day-to-day actions and self-serving support of the regime, were integral to the success of the Naz* war machine and its attendant horrors.

Today, does anyone suggest that the violent Jihad that is preached from so many Mosques constitutes a war crime? Does anyone suggest that the hatred preached in almost all Madrassas should be focused on and labeled provocation for murder? No…it is easier to focus on some 18-year-old Palestinian kid that has been educated by these same people into being little more than a Jew-hating killing machine.

It is broadly accepted that the Germans themselves, had the responsibility to challenge their government; a government brought to power by the actions of Germans themselves. If we had refused to attack the German homeland, to spare the theoretically “innocent” Germans, the Naz*s would still control Europe … if not beyond. This same logic holds true for Islam…and Muslims…and Gaza.

It is not the fault of the West … it is not our fault … that Muslims voluntary belong to a faith … more precisely, a political ideology … that has at its core, a doctrine of creating world-wide submission through violent Jihad. It is not the fault of the West, that the vast majority of deadly terrorist attacks over the past thirty years have been carried out by Muslims.

Islam cannot be reformed any more than the Naz* philosophy could have been reformed. “You can’t make a silk purse out of a sow’s ear.”  Freedom allows for multi-level development and reform, but absolutist doctrines like N*zism … or Islam … do not.

Islam cannot be reformed but it can be “scrubbed.”  But it can only be scrubbed by those very few Muslims who directly challenge and reject the violent premises that lie at Islam’s core. This difficult battle cannot be won if it is denied that this apostate core even exists.

The argument for “scrubbing” Islam…made by Muslims… must go something like this:

“Yes…our starting point was within the violent premises that drove our prophet. He was a man of his time, who through violence and the creation of Jihad, spread our religion across the planet. We modern Muslims are not people of his time, although all too many of us have retained that mindset. We live in a modern world with different values and awareness. We are not primitives of the seventh century. We are educated and thoughtful. We must not be dominated by ideas that have long since been replaced by concepts that enable people to live in a world of prosperity and security. If we do not eliminate those ideologies, then Muslims will continue to remain a pariah to all others…gaining acceptance only through fear.

We are better than our compelling original doctrines. We are better than the world of the seventh century. We are better than those other Muslims who believe that Allah wants them to slaughter innocents. We can, however, maintain our faith and our humanness, by eliminating those original doctrines that left us outside the potential of the modern world. I ask all Muslims to join us on this journey.”

The major problem with implementing this approach is that those who did so would not be Muslims within any assessment of Islam. They would be apostates, apostates who are asking that Islam, as it has always existed, be scrapped in favor of something more in line with a civilized world. They must become what their apologists have always said they were…but were wrong. They must now become that religion of peace that they have always claimed to be. That shouldn’t be that difficult…of course it nearly impossible to achieve. Islam cannot be “reformed” …but it can be “scrubbed.” I am not optimistic.

Muhammad Taqi Partovi Samzevari, in his “Future of the Islamic Movement” (1986), summed up the Islamic worldview:

“In the Qur’an’s historic vision Allah’s support and the revolutionary struggle of the people must come together, so that Satanic rulers are brought down and put to death. A people that is not prepared to kill and to die in order to create a just society cannot expect any support from Allah. The Almighty has promised us that the day will come when the whole of mankind will live united under the banner of Islam, when the sign of the Crescent, the symbol of Muhammad, will be supreme everywhere. … But that day must be hastened through our Jihad, through our readiness to offer our lives and to shed the unclean blood of those who do not see the light brought from the Heavens by Muhammad in his mi’raj {“nocturnal voyages to the ‘court’ of Allah”}. … It is Allah who puts the gun in our hand. But we cannot expect Him to pull the trigger as well simply because we are faint-hearted.”

Samzevari’s words should tell you all that you need to know. You will find nothing to challenge his ideas from any authority source in Islam. Islam will not voluntarily reject its current course of action. They are winning…why would they turn away when the victory, so long sought for 1300 years, is within their grasp? They must be defeated. Even defeat, however, will only put them into a waiting posture…waiting for the next moment of weakness in which to strike. They will continue this process forever for they, as with the scorpion who caused his own death by stinging the frog because he “was a scorpion” …Islam will continue to always be Islam.

Muhammad divided the world in two sectors. One he called Dar us Salam (House of Peace) and the other, Dar al Harb (House of War). All countries, where Islam is not the ruling authority, are Dar al Harb. It is the duty of the Muslims to wage Jihad in Dar al Harb, overthrow the governments and force people into submission. This is the only kind of peace that Islam recognizes.
