|Happy New Year everyone!
I hope you all had a safe and happy Holiday Season. I put the last of our Christmas decorations away this weekend so I am set to go for this new year. So let’s get right to the latest news, starting with restaurants.
Even I am having trouble keeping up with the revolving door of restaurants in our area so I will highlight just SOME goings on….and what many of you have asked about. At Mercato, the Hampton Social is now open and from what i hear is a pretty good destination. If you will remember, Hampton Social is in the place of McCormick & Schmick’s. Rocco’s Tacos & Tequila Bar (which is taking the place of MASA) is scheduled to open in mid-January. I have not heard when TooJay’s Deli is opening as yet in the former space of the Stage Deli.
The much loved Trattoria Abruzzo, located in the Pavilion Shopping Center, will be opening a second location in the former space of Cafe Alfredo at Galleria Shoppes at Vanderbilt in North Naples.
Lulu B’s from the Marketplace at Pelican Bay has opened a second location in the Greentree Plaza off of Immokalee.
Farther south on 41 in Park Shore Plaza will be the new Yard House Restaurant, a Darden restaurant, which has risen from where Chili’s used to be and will open to the public on January 21. Yard House has more than 70 restaurants in 24 states, including 7 in Florida.
Finally, the Island Gypsy Poolside Cafe will open in a space formerly occupied by Pete’s Island Club at the Park Shore Resort off of Neapolitan. The Island Gypsy originated on the Isle of Capri.
More need to know news:
The Apple Store at Waterside has been gutted along with the adjacent Talbot’s store and is now in the process of being rebuilt to a new magnificent venue which is scheduled to open this coming September. In the meantime, I have been traveling to the Apple Store in Coconut Point which has served me quite well in getting my new iPhone and iPadPro. If you go to the Coconut Point store, however — bring a jacket. It is FREEZING in that place. It must be because of the overheated brain power of the geniuses who work there.
The Baker Museum at Artis-Naples is being torn apart to be new and better when completed There is a LOT of big equipment in the general area of Artis yet they seem to pull off performances in spite of the work going on.
Many of you who live in Bay Colony, Pelican Bay and North Naples will be interested to know that the proposed development by Stock Development of ONE NAPLES is dormant. The web site has not been active for quite some time nor has there been any chatter about the project in recent days. Fingers crossed that that idea is dead.
Great news — one can almost drive all the way north on Vanderbilt Drive from Vanderbilt Beach Road….yippee. I guess that signals an end in sight from what seemed to be a never-ending project in Naples Park. Good for the residents there and good for us who like to use Vanderbilt Drive.
The new tower in Pelican Bay, Mystique, has been topped off and, as mentioned before, looks to be completed in March of this year. I have also heard that the announcement of the SECOND new tower (which will be right next to Mystique) will be coming in the not-too-distant future. Yup — another tower just to the south of Mystique. Stay tuned for news on that one.
That’s all my news for now. Some things in life remain constant, however. The black bean soup at Cibao Grille is still awesome, the music of our favorite funky blues band, Mudbone, is still the best we have heard, I LOVE Whole Foods and the weather here in our paradise is spectacular.
More later as it happens — Happy 2019!!
