Hi, everyone. It has been a while since I last wrote…but with good reason. This season has been BUSY….it seems more busy than years past. Here we are — coming up on the end of February. Yikes — where has the time gone. I know I always say that, but it is the TRUTH!! I know you all know what I mean. Not only that, but I had to resuscitate my ancient MacBook yet again….which is getting aggravating.
Let me cover a housekeeping item right off the bat. In my last “Greetings,” I told you about a dispute I was having with the Naples Daily News about the OBSCENE price they were asking per month for 7-day a week delivery. Well, believe it or not…after some serious pushback….they came down $14.00 over the price they had originally quoted. The price is still obscene….but not as obscene as it was…so I feel a bit vindicated.
Also, I told you all that I was going to a tasting at the new Japanese/Asian fusion restaurant called NAMBA at the Marketplace at Pelican Bay. I am happy to tell you that the food was EXCELLENT and the restaurant is TINY. It is certainly worth a try because the chef is totally focused on the freshest of the fresh food and you can really tell. All of my fellow tasters at the event were raving about the food as well….so thumbs up all the way around.
DORONA — the sibling of Sea Salt and Barbatella, opened on January 24 to rave reviews. The Italian steakhouse, which is located where Midtown used to be….close to Food & Thought….promises to be a terrific destination for those who are already fans of Chef Fabrizio Aielli.
Vanderbilt Drive continues to be a total HOT MESS….and according to those in the know, the project is not scheduled to be done until AT LEAST June of this year. And if the replacement of the infrastructure in the area does not go PERFECTLY, the finish date will go well beyond June. It is SO FRUSTRATING not to have that route open during season….just saying.
Here is an interesting tidbit of information which I did not know until recently. Did you ever wonder why CNN is the only television station that is on in airports all over? It is because CNN PAYS the airports to broadcast their programming. Wow. I had no idea. That has to be a costly investment. Just an FYI.
For news around town, here is what I know for sure and in case you missed it:
Ruby Tuesday at the Marketplace at Pelican Bay has closed forever.
Rocco’s Tacos will be replacing MASA at Mercato. Rocco’s already has restaurants in Ft. Lauderdale, Palm Beach Gardens, West Palm Beach, Delray Beach & Tampa. You can check out their menus at www.roccostacos.com.
The Yard House will be replacing Chili’s — FINALLY — in Park Shore Plaza. Yard House is owned by the Darden Group of Season’s 52, Capital Grille and Olive Garden fame. The restaurant also has locations in Sunrise, Coral Gables & Halandale Beach. You may also have noticed that across the side street from Park Shore Plaza…on the way to Alexander’s Restaurant…there has appeared a Starbuck’s AND a new TIDE Dry Cleaners venue.
Lucky’s Market will be shooting for a second location in Naples in the shopping area along Wiggins Pass and will be just adjacent to DSW shoes. Lucky’s has already enjoyed success in East Naples.
I have heard rumors that a Chanel store may be coming to 5th Avenue. (Yippee) I also have been told by an EXCELLENT source that Mayor Bill Barnett will run again in 2020. Nice.
Projects that are moving forward are Baker Park, which is scheduled to open by August 2019…and also the boutique hotel planned for the Third Street Plaza…CANNOT WAIT FOR THAT TO HAPPEN. I will keep you posted as news breaks on these projects.
Finally, Bob and I just returned two weeks ago from our 3rd year cruising on “The Jazz Cruise.” It was 7 days of nearly non-stop music by SO MANY world class musicians. We had the BEST TIME and were SO SORRY when the cruise was over. The cruise line was Celebrity, the ship was the Summit and they did an excellent job with food and service and everything else. The music venues were outstanding and the Canyon Ranch Spa at Sea was second to none. We signed up for next year the day after we boarded….our 4th year for “The Jazz Cruise.” I do not mean to wish our year away….but I cannot wait until next January when we board once again. For your information and to learn more about this fabulous cruise, log on to www.thejazzcruise.com — Bob and I highly recommend checking it out.
Oh — and by the way, I am wrapping this up quickly as today is Tuesday and tonight is Mudbone night at the Dogtooth Sports and Music Bar. It’s been, I think, 6 years…maybe 7…and we are up for Mudbone music nearly every Tuesday evening. The boys continue to be that good.
I hope you are enjoying our beautiful paradise as much as we are…and I will bring you more news about goings on around town as they happen.
AND Happy 43rd Wedding Anniversary on Thursday to my most wonderful husband.
